Calling and emailing matter. Taking the ask public can add pressure. Name the elected official, make the request clear, and tag the official account when one exists.
- 1
MAKE ONE CLEAR ASK
Say what you want the official to do — oppose a proposal, support a bill, hold a hearing, or speak publicly.
- 2
NAME THE OFFICIAL
Use the elected official’s name in the post even when tagging the account.
- 3
TAG THE OFFICIAL ACCOUNT WHEN AVAILABLE
Use the official office or government account when possible and verify the account before tagging.
- 4
INCLUDE THE ISSUE
Use the bill number, policy name, agency action, or issue in plain text.
- 5
KEEP IT FOCUSED
One official + one issue + one ask is stronger than tagging a long list of unrelated accounts.
- 6
ADD A SOURCE WHEN USEFUL
Link to credible supporting information when it helps people understand the issue.
- 7
IF THEY ARE NOT ON THAT PLATFORM
Name the official anyway and, when appropriate, tag the relevant office, committee, caucus, agency, or directly related account.
